MIGRAINE AWARENESS MONTH

June is Migraine Awareness Month!!!! Here are some facts:

  • Migraine is the 6th most disabling illness in the world
  • More than 4 million people in the US have chronic daily migraine
  • 18% of American women experience migraines
  • More than half of all migraine sufferers are never diagnosed

Chronic Daily Migraine has really sidetracked my life; I never thought it would be like this. I see my neurologist more than my friends. I think a little more education and awareness is needed. Migraine is not “just a headache”, it is an actual neurological disease.

  1. hi. I’m about to read the transcripts of the CNN Anderson Cooper Show about the ‘opiate’ epidemic. A lot of haters against people I pain. Even the CDC. Maybe I’ll blog about Dr. Houry and her new guidelines for pain med prescribing. Thanks for being so brave. Mind is back pain not Migraine. I used to have a boyfriend with Migraine. His eyes would go up to the back of his head for days on end.

  2. I also have a neurologist because of a med side effect called Tardive Dyskinesia the meds that cause it make the drug companies so much money that if you write for a publication that has drug company ad revenue it’s an unmentionable. I finally asked bphope.com if I can write a balanced piece about it and tell about the statistics and phrase it as ‘real, but rare’ rather than be all alarmist. I do not think they will allow me to address this. It impacts chronic pain. I have written a tardive blog for another publisher and want to put it on my blog. My dental situation…impossible with the grinding, snapping of the oromandibular area. We travel to a neurologist at a teaching hospital movement disorder clinic and it took us three years to find him!
